Sebei Tourism Initiative

⦁ To act as a platform to bring together all tourism actors across the region to forge ways of developing the sector.


⦁ To expand and introduce new and exciting tourism attractions and activities to the tourism market through tourism product development across the region and encourage the development of these unique and authentic tourism products based on the community’s strengths, traditions, and natural assets hence contribution to the tourism value chain across Sebei sub region.


⦁ To enhance tourism infrastructure through improvement in accessibility, accommodation (increase number of beds), and visitor facilities in key tourist areas/sites, providing better infrastructure to support sustainable tourism growth while maintaining environmental balance.


⦁ To empower local communities through tourism by involving them in the tourism sector and providing them with skills training, financial support, and resources to develop community-based tourism enterprises, ensuring that tourism benefits are equitably shared.


⦁ To preserve and promote tangible cultural heritage through collaborating with local communities to appreciate and showcase their unique cultural practices, traditional knowledge, and historical sites, while developing cultural tourism products that attract visitors and generate income for local communities.


⦁ To leverage digital technologies for tourism promotion through attracting the telecommunication companies, utilizing digital platforms, including websites and social media, to market the region as a sustainable tourism destination, attracting eco-conscious travelers while boosting local businesses and tourism service providers.


⦁ To support economic development through tourism through generating new income opportunities and employment for local residents through tourism-related businesses, helping reduce poverty and boost economic resilience in the region.


⦁ To ensure environmental sustainability through implementing eco-friendly practices in tourist destinations, such as waste management systems, renewable energy solutions, and eco-tourism ensuring the long-term sustainability of the region’s natural resources.


⦁ To encourage government and investors to invest in essential infrastructure, such as accommodation, transportation, and sanitation facilities, to enhance the overall tourism experience and community well-being through provision of high standard of services for guests with relaxing, comfortable and memorable experiences of Sebei culture and nature.


⦁ To support the diversification of livelihoods within communities by creating opportunities for skills development, entrepreneurship and empowerment of people in the region through tourism.
⦁ To provide training programs for community members, enhancing their hospitality skills, language proficiency, tour guiding tools and principles and knowledge of sustainable tourism practices.


⦁ To foster partnerships and collaboration with the line ministries Uganda Tourism Board and other MDAs, responsible tour operators, travel agencies, districts leadership and other stakeholders who align with the principles of tourism development to ensure coordinated and inclusive tourism planning, policy development, and implementation in the region.

Scope of work:


⦁ Tourism product development and promotion: The initiative aims to expand and introduce new and exciting tourism attractions and activities to the tourism market through tourism product development across the region and encourage the development of these unique and authentic tourism products based on the community’s strengths, traditions, and natural assets hence contribution to the tourism value chain across Sebei subregion especially the mighty Mt. Elgon National Park, Sipi Falls.


⦁ Human-Wildlife Conflict Mitigation and Resolution: The initiative aims to collaborate closely with the Ministry and its departments to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts situations, ensuring both the safety of human populations and the well-being of these magnificent creatures/wildlife.


⦁ Wildlife Conservation Awareness: The initiative aims to amplify efforts of the government and other actors to tirelessly to raise awareness about the critical importance of conservation through engaging outreach campaigns, educate communities and the public about the significance of coexisting with wildlife.


⦁ Habitat Restoration and Protection: Sebei Tourism Initiative aims to actively participates in habitat restoration projects, focusing on safeguarding the landscapes that serve as vital wildlife habitats through engaging in reforestation initiatives and advocate for policies that protect these crucial areas through tree planting among others.


⦁ Wildlife Research and Advocacy: The initiative shall embark on mobilizing the communities to develop teams of scientists and researchers that can conduct groundbreaking studies to better understand wildlife behavior, ecology, and population dynamics hence provide insights that shall inform evidence-based conservation strategies and policies for the region.
